NOMINATION 2: The Terroristic Killing of the Mother of Pres
Nominated by: Talchyon
Notes by Imperial Talchyon: "Nominated not because it is heartwarming, but a tearjerker nonetheless.
Why do I think this should win? The terrorist group named "Exalt" began the IC of the science-fiction RP "New Dawn" with a planned, devastating attack against the citizens of the Zach American capitol planet, as well as other planets in the Icarus minicluster. The "Exalt" terrorists stop at nothing. The intentional killing of Pres. Garrison's mother, videoed and shown to the president while in the midst of trying to track them down after a major terrorist attack on his city, crippled and brought the president to deep levels of despair. Thought this post was well thought out and deserving of a nomination."

"Excellent to meet you, sir." Director Lopez stepped out of the hovercraft in a suit and tie, his hair combed smoothly to the side. His short stature ever apparent, his tan skin smooth and well cleaned. His aviator glasses covered his eyes on a sunny evening in Zach America. Without knowing any better, Chyne would have guessed Lopez was actually some sort of mobster from the 1930s.
"You are correct," He continued, "It would be better to speak in private. We will take you directly to the Red House so you can speak with the President himself. Our escorts from the infamous XCOM Military base will get us there safely. They guided Chyne into the drop ship and took off as soon as everyone was strapped in correctly.
"Sorry for the drop ship!" Lopez shouted over the noises of the engine. "All of our luxury crafts would be too big to land on the Red House lawn!" Chyne looked puzzled, but decided to go with it anyways. The ship accelerated through the peril night to get to the Red House as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the Skyberius forces had unloaded all of their equipment out onto the tarmac. Justin Steiner stepped up to the leader of the Skyberian fleet and reached out a hand of thanks, and welcoming.
"The United National Guard appreciates the help, ma'am. We are going to transport the equipment to our Headquarters just outside Zach City for safe keeping. My units will be able to help with that. Is there anything else you would need from me? I hate to be in such a rush, but I am needed on ground zero pretty quickly here."
Red House
President Garrison took the two small pills in his hand from Madison, put them into his mouth, kicked his head back and swallowed. The headache that had developed from the stress of the situation was starting to fog Garrison's mind. Sweat dripped down his forehead, and made the collar of his shirt an off shade of white. Garrison unbuttoned the top two buttons of his shirt to allow some breathing room for his chest. He looked back up at the screen, the same logo sat there.
Finally it fuzzed out to the image of one single figure. A slender body, with longer dark hair. Garrison's eyes cut to the corner of the screen, where a small display of the local news channel was playing. It too, had the same image. Whatever was about to be said, was going to be heard nation wide. The silhouette looked up at the screen, and the computerized voice began to speak.
"Hello, Zach America. A nation, no longer united." The first words, of a speech that would be remembered for an eternity. "My name, is unknown. My appearance, is unknown. All you need to know is this: I am the leader of the EXALT regime, the true representative of the people of Zach America."
A pause that felt like a year went by, Garrison felt his heart beating in his chest, he began to feel dizzy. Luckily the firm hand of Madison holding his made him feel somewhat better, somewhat comforted in the chaos that was unfolding.
"I am here this evening to not take responsibility for the 'horrendous acts of terror' that have played out today, but I am here to take responsibility to the start of a much needed movement in Zach America, beginning with the Liberty Hotel bombings."
It was finally done, responsibility was claimed, EXALT was the responsible party for the attacks on the Liberty hotel. Garrison felt a sense of closure, yet a need for closure. It was if one door was locked shut, but another just off in the distance opened. Garrison arose from his deep thought when he heard the door open and shut to the M.T.A.C. Garrison glanced over his shoulder to see two XCOM operatives escorting Mr. Chyne into the room. Director Lopez was already at his side. He pushed his sunglasses up over his forehead so they rested on the top of his head. He leaned in to whisper to Garrison.
"We got here as soon as we could."
The figure continued: "Our efforts go interstellar, to the attacks in Lyrasona." The figure stated, another gasp across M.T.A.C. "Both attacks commenced for the same reason. The nations of Lyrasona and Zach America face the issue of overpopulation, yet have yet to do anything about it. Why? Because they know the only option they have, yet refuse to take that path. We, as the EXALT regime, have. It's time Zach America and Lyrasona take executive" a pause "lethal" another pause "action to eliminate the weak, and let the best of the best survive and thrive in their beloved nations. Survival of the fittest. If the executive order refuses to act, we as a representative of the people will."
The door busted open in the back of M.T.A.C. Everyone's head whipped around. Garrison recognized the figure immediately.
"Dad, what the hell are you doing here?" Garrison said.
"Zachary..." He stuttered. "Its...its...your mother...she's gone...she never came home from work...and when I tried to call her, I got...I got this." Dave Garrison flashed his phone in front of his son. As if there was any doubt, Garrison gasped at the image. The same image that had ruled the night in Zach America.
The figure began speaking again, as if on cue. As if they had waited for The later Mr. Garrison to come in and speak.
"This is not just an issue of these two nations. Every nation of Icarus is plagued with overpopulation, and we plan to eliminate that problem. In...every...country. We begin, with Zach America." It was as if another 200 pound wait was slammed on Garrison's shoulders.
"Until you decide to take executive action, President Garrison. I personally will begin to take out the most weak of your nation."
The screen fuzzed out, then back in. Out, then back in. Soon enough the screen was clear, and Garrison felt his tears well up in his eyes. Madison grabbed a hold of Garrison, Lopez put a hand on Garrison's back, Dave Garrison wept on the ground. It was as if Garrison was in a room of silence. A deep and dark room with no one there. He felt powerless, he felt violated, he watched as he could do nothing. In that room of silence, only one thing could be heard. The one gunshot fired in the small room on the screen in front of him. Garrison felt his eyes well up even more to the point he couldn't make out anything. He blinked a few times and let his eyes focus. Maybe his vision was blurred at first and he really didn't see who he thought tied down to the chair on the screen. As his eyes came into focus, the screen went black. That feeling was worse than whatever he could have possibly seen in that room. His throat immediately was dry and in pain. He felt the first tear come down his cheek. He heard his dad on the floor in front of him. Weeping with all he had, tears pouring out. Dave Garrison was brought to his knees in pain and agony. He held his head up with his hands. Garrison felt a wet spot on his shirt, where Madison rested her head and cried. Garrison could now here the sniffles and tears of others in the room. Everyone in the room knew who she was. Knew her smile, knew her laugh, knew her sense of humor. They also knew her drive to help others, and be the best at anything she tried at.
Garrison turned to his girlfriend, gave her a kiss on the forehead, and embraced her full on.
"I'm so sorry, baby." She said through her sobs. "She was such an amazing woman."
Garrison let the tears roll down his cheeks as he slowly let go of Madison. He felt a hand on his back and he turned to see Director Lopez standing there. He looked up at Garrison, saw the tears in his eyes, and gave up. He let a tear flow down his cheek, and extended his hand.
"F*ck that manly shit, bring it here man." Lopez said as his tears became overwhelming. The two coworkers, but most importantly friends, came together and hugged it out. Garrison stood a good foot over Lopez, which made the hug a little awkward, but that wasn't what Garrison was thinking about. He released from that hug and looked to his father, who lay on the ground now weeping like he had never seen before. His very own mother and father died right in front of him, and he cried, but nothing to the extent of this. Garrison walked over to his father, bent down next to him, and put a hand on his shoulder. His father turned around with tear streaks down his cheeks. He had been crying so hard that sweat dripped from his forehead. When their eyes met, Garrison could see right through him and right into the pain that dug out his heart and through it out the window. Garrison had never seen his dad so horribly saddened. He felt it coming until there was no point of it. He felt the stab wound in his heart gush open. The dam holding his tears back finally broke, and he stood to embrace with his father. The father whom he could never impress. The father whom thought his son was "never good enough," the father whom tried to come back into Garrison's life, but the President shut him out. The man, according to the President's mother, whom President Garrison was so much alike, they always budded heads. Now they stood in the Situation Room, holding onto each other for dear life.
"She was the best mother I could have ever asked for." Zach Garrison sobbed out.
"She was the best wife I could have ever asked for." Dave Garrison sobbed out.
"You know what she'd want us to do, right?" Zach said and smiled at the memory of his mother.
"Catch the sonofabitch who killed her?"
"Yessir."
"Can we just stand here for a little longer?"
Garrison answered by embracing his dad tighter, and letting his sobs continue to flow out.
Ground Zero
Silence.
For the first time since seconds before the explosion, silence.
No words, no sirens, no explosions, silence.
It was the most cut-throat silence X-Ray ever stood through. As he watched the jumbotron on the corner of 33rd and Manchester go dark, he said goodbye to the woman that took him under her arms, and gave him the mother he never had. X-Ray didn't remember the last time he shed a tear, and the feeling of the warm salty water dripping down his face now felt exotic to him. In that moment, it came back to him that there was a building that was about to collapse, and valuable intel waiting. He walked over to Neeros, who stared at the black jumbotron stunned, and tapped him on the shoulder.
"So what'd this thing get?" X-Ray said pointing to the device hovering next to them.
